Hello my dear friends,
After meeting many of you in person at NFT.NYC in New York and The Art Market Day in Paris, let’s go back to email updates.
The events, drops, and work keep piling up, but we are back to #niftyfanny.
For what happened this week, keep reading.
How Crypto Treated The Art Market This Week
Auction Houses
Two works by Banksy have been sold at auction by Sotheby's in ETHER, and it reminded me to watch the movie, Banksy Most Wanted. My favorite quote from the movie: “it’s a massive fuck you to the art world”.
The ConstitutionDAO lost the Constitution at Sotheby’s Auction House to Citadel Hedge Fund cofounder Kenneth Griffin - NYTimes - CNBC - Artnews
Brooke Lampey, Sotheby’s head of sales, joined the DAO & crypto conversations on Twitter.
Galleries
Pace Gallery is finally launching their NFT marketplace, Pace Verso, on November 22 - Hyperbeast - Artnews
Museums
We start to see 2021 “look back” articles. Cuseum is summarizing how museums have experimented so far with NFTs.
Conferences
Hot takes from The Art Market Day 2021, which happened on Monday in Paris:
The event took place at the prestigious Centre Pompidou
The metaverse is still mostly misunderstood
Having fun is a new concept in the art market
Kenny, Zup and I are still the weird NFT people (and we like it this way)
French art+tech startups are vibrant
Watch out for the African market boom
Plan a trip to Paris soon:
The French MOCA is organizing crypto art revolution on December 15-16 with an IRL exhibition, workshops and panels.
After NFT.NYC & NFT.LDN, NFT.PARIS was just announced for January 22 at Station F.
Note: There is on purpose no ART BASEL MIAMI events in this newsletter. I am still in denial and will cover it in the coming weeks.
Podcasts I Listened To This Week
The Ipse Dixit podcast on legal scholarship is hosting the “NFT Notes” series
Artist Decoded podcast, started in 2015 by visual artist, Yoshino, presents very insightful conversations, including the latest one with Colborn, founder of the Museum of Crypto Art
Crypto Native Events Worth Mentioning
TheVERSEverse launched the first NFT platform dedicated to poetry with a delightful collection of visual poems by Sasha Stiles, Ana Maria Caballero, Pierre Gervois and many other.
If you leave under a crypto rock, you might have missed the closure of Hicetnunc.xyz (HEN). Always meant to be an experiment, the end was brutal and announced by a Twitter bio. If it had been a centralized platform, all art would have been lost. In the case of decentralized platforms, it is not! The community gathered up and organized itself to restore all works. ClubNFT even agreed to pay the storage on IPFS for all HEN works to ensure they stay up. A perfect argument for decentralized systems.
That’s it for now. If you want daily updates, follow me on Twitter.
I am ending this letter with one service I’d like to shill (which means “advertise your own product in crypto slang”).
Thanks to the LAL ART Advisory team (Harry and Krystle), artists can now schedule a custom workshop with us if they need help starting with NFTs or bringing them to the next level. Schedule one here >
Have a great weekend.
