A Timeline of Museums & Web3 + NFT Paris Week Schedule
February 2023: The Month in Crypto by LAL ART
For our February edition, we wanted to do our own research [#DYOR] on the actual involvement of museums in Web3.
Recently, with major institutions like SFMOMA, Centre Pompidou or LACMA acquiring NFTs, the press has been very generous with headlines such as “The first museum in [select country] to ever [select action]” without doing the proper research to sustain such claims. The cult of firsts or “first-ism” is common practice in the tech startup world, but it is now [unfortunately] entering the art world via the blockchain.
With no agenda other than documentation, we started putting together a list of historical experiments (such as exhibitions, financing, acquisitions) museums have done over the years with blockchain, NFTs and crypto art, and we hope to collaborate with many of you to grow the list and document history better.
When in Paris…
For those who’ll be in Paris next week for NFT PARIS conference, which is happening on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25, we put together a list of side events happening around the city the week prior. We hope to meet as well as three members of the LAL ART team out of four (Lapin, Harry and myself) will be present. Krystle will be missed!
The LAL ART team is planning a family tour of the main event (for curious parents and bored kids attending). Included: sticker treasure hunt, not boring NFT 101, tour of the curated art on display! Follow our Twitter for details to come.
