A bit late again due to a big personal move of my entire family from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Back to the Island!
Hope you enjoy this week’s menu!

Recent Cryptoart News
There has been contrasted reactions to the Sotheby’s “Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale”, ranging from celebration of success to concern that women, transgender individuals, and artists of color ended up with much lower priced sales. My take on the results is that artists who were made popular by NFTs, such as FVCKRENDER, CryptoPunks, or PAK, are the real $$ winners, which reminds us of the way the Contemporary Art market works around famous brands, such as Jeff Koons, whereas other new media artists, active and established pre-NFTs, such as Rhea Myers, LaJuné McMillian or Casey Reas did not achieve as high prices. This does not mean the works don’t have value though, it just mean that they have not found a wide market acceptance yet. [NFTS.WTF]
Sotheby’s sold the rare “COVID Alien” CryptoPunk 7523 for $11.8M, a new record, adding to my above comment. [CNBC]
There have been a few articles about the role and the place of women in crypto art from Charlotte Kent, who is looking at the creative possibilities of NFTs for marginalized women artists to Emilie Echaroux who studied how women are using NFTs to reappropriate their bodies and image.
