Hello,
This week, we are going a bit off rail with news only and off topic with more gaming and technical updates. Besides, after seven weeks and editions of the newsletter, I wanted to ask for your feedback about it by email. Please be as polite and constructive as possible (I don’t react well to insults or poop emojis…).
But let’s open up to new things for now!

You must have spotted tweets about London and Ethereum in the past week. Nobody is visiting Buckingham Palace though. Ethereum just went through another milestone to upgrade to Ethereum 2 (aka Eth 2.0 or Serenity). London is the name of the latest hard fork upgrade of the Ethereum Network, which includes a few defining EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) aiming at reducing gas fees and burning some portions of every Ethereum transaction. [Cointelegraph] provides a good summary of all recent forks and their roles, while [Bankless metaversal] explains the impact on NFTs. Finally [Coindesk] focuses a research paper on EIP 1559 in further details.

After this complicated update, let’s catch our breath and play a bit for a while. The blockchain-based game, Axie Infinity, is not new, but has shown an amazing revenue and user base growth in the past few months. [Not Boring] Podcast & Newsletter dedicated its last issue to the Axie universe and I encourage you to watch the documentary Play to Earn on [Youtube] to understand the impact of the game during the pandemic in emerging countries. For the fun story, I’ve had one Axie since 2018, purchased after Jihoz, the founder of Axie Infinity, offered me my first Cryptokitty. But I got another two this week after listening to at least five videos on how to build a team of three Axies (the minimum required to play). And I still think I did it wrong. Btw, this is an open call to younger gamers to help an old lady understand the Axie game strategy.
During this time in the art market, [Christie’s] announced the first Crypto Art auction in Hong Kong, “No Time Like Present”, for this fall from September 17 to 28, which includes a Punk, a Bored Ape, and a Meebit. This seems to be planned to be auctioned off-chain again, not helping the space and collaboration between Crypto and Art further, as I mentioned during my talk at the [EthCC conference].
[JPG] launched a new art curation protocol with a curated exhibition of Crypto Art gems, “Deep Time”. It connects creators, collectors and curators through a registry-based protocol focused on NFT curation. Users create sub-registries and add NFTs, forming an on-chain network of exhibitions. Hint: the on-chain part is important and the user experience is refreshingly enjoyable.
There are a lot of shady things happening around Nifty Gateway sales and ownership structure that we all sort of know but that went viral on [Twitter]. Conspiracy Theory or Centralized Mafia? This would require more digging to really say.
See more resources on the repository I put together on Notion below for my clients.
